Sarah Shriver

Sarah is driven to make things and always has been. She considers herself an artisan and craftswoman and we feel so lucky to have found her medium in polymer clay. Her primary inspirations have been from textiles, ceramic tiles and more recently from fine art paintings. She happily travels far and wide to share the revelations of her own experiences using polymer clay. She finds teaching a great joy and sees no reason to hold back on sharing the multitude of techniques and tips she’s discovered in her countless hours of exploration.

Sarah loves color and the endless designs polymer clay, and her various techniques enable her to create. Typically her work cycle is such that when she is ready to begin a new cane, she seeks inspiration in books, museums and nature. Once she has an idea for a design, she begins sketching and building a color palette. From here, she mixes colors and builds Skinner Blends for the cane. Having done this for so long, she knows how to manipulate the canes to get a myriad of cohesive patterns that she then makes into beads.

She graduated with a BA Studio Arts degree from UC Davis. However, she is self-taught in terms of her polymer clay work. Most recently her work was published in Lark Craft book series Masters, Polymer Clay: Major Works by Leading Artists. Her work is also included in the following museum collections: Racine Art Museum, Racine Wisconsin; MFA Boston, Boston Massachusetts; Mingei International Museum, San Diego CA. Show awards include: Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival “Award of Excellence” Mill Valley, CA; 2008 Embellishments, First place in “Gleaming Treasures” Polymer Clay, Sacramento, CA, 1998, among others.
